CRAFTING THE FUTURE
LAURA DE GRINYO
A former student of Ibiza’s fabled master potter, Adrián Ribas, de Grinyo studied at the iconic Sa Teulera atelier. With a fascination for metamorphosis and evolution, she uses Ibiza’s red earth clay to explore themes of light and dark, life and death, birth and decay. Inspired by complex themes of architecture, ancient history, astrology, mythology, music, nature and the cosmos, de Grinyo creates fluid, sculptural pieces that reflect both her own connection to the island and Ibiza’s noble lineage of ceramics while collaborating with the likes of Loewe and interior designer Isabel López-Quesada.
CAN CASTELLO
Can Castello is a haven for contemporary craftsmanship. Pura and José specialise in traditional techniques, crafting beautiful furniture and meaningful interiors that nod to the island’s wild, natural beauty. Pieces feel elemental, as though they were inspired by the Phoenicians themselves, while the use of reclaimed materials lends a soulful patina that honours the heritage of the island.
ALINE DE LAFORCADE
From chaos comes order: a rare type of transformation is created textural artist by Aline de Laforcade, who works with an archaic, anachronistic and primitive frame loom to tame raw and found materials in the way that they want or need to be tamed. Using her hands and soul to create boundary-breaking hanging pieces that blur the lines between art and craft, de Laforcade has built up an extraordinary body of handmade work that encourages a dialogue between nature and indigenous craft and honours the re-learning of skills lost to time.
