BAR ANITA: THE VILLAGE ICON

AN UNCHANGED INSTITUTION IN THE HEART OF SAN CARLOS.

A San Carlos classic, this joint is about as old-school as it gets in Ibiza. On walking in, you’d be forgiven for thinking you might have come to the wrong place—but the rickety wooden tables, plastic napkin dispensers and hyper-local feel are exactly what’s so charming about it. Indeed, if it feels like Bar Anita hasn’t changed since the middle of the last century, it’s because it probably hasn’t. Back in the day, hippies, artists and creatives would hole up here to sip absinthe (it was once famous for serving the real deal). In the 1970s, when Bar Anita had the only phone in the village, this is where draft-dodging young Americans would come to call home to their parents.

Today, locals and tourists alike come for lazy Sunday coffees, a menu of simple Spanish classics and all the village gossip. Either way, this original hippie bar has a relaxed, laidback feel, no matter the time, day, or season.
