EARTHY MINIMALISM

RAW TEXTURES AND PRIMITIVE MATERIALS REFLECT THE NATURAL BEAUTY OF THE NORTH.

Elegant and earthy, the showroom for Tanis Interiors blends seamlessly into its Santa Gertrudis surroundings: chic but not ostentatious. It’s the very picture of ‘earthy minimalism’, a design philosophy that has become the studio’s manifesto.

Tanis was founded in 2014 by interior designers Tatjana Berger-Sandhofer and Nick Lording, who wanted to magnify the beauty of the island and
its raw materials. Wooden furnishings, tactile fabrics, raw textures: each piece is introduced for its down-to-earth, at-home feel. Rustic touches are introduced to both traditional fincas and contemporary houses, channeling the warmth of the island. ‘An earthy palette is imperative for blending homes into the landscape,’ says Lording. ‘By using these colours in homes, the indoors and outdoors blend seamlessly into nature.’ He adds: ‘Decorating a home is a journey. It is not always possible to find the right piece and so, rightly, it takes time. The most beautiful homes have timeless collections of treasures acquired over a lifetime, where each piece tells a story.’

The go-to for anyone seeking tactile pieces that are both enduring and liveable, Tanis is beloved especially in the north of Ibiza. ‘The north is a throwback to the Ibiza of days old,’ says Lording. ‘The untouched beauty of the north is breathtaking: the farmhouses, the farmers, the trees, the animals, the ruins, the sounds of the chickens, the donkeys. The energy of the north is just different. So much more peaceful. The light feels different. There is so much more space to breathe.’
